As a stop-gap, I ordered Logan the children’s liquid vitamins from The Vitamin Shoppe.
Reasonable levels of everything and no copper just to keep us going until I can research more deeply.
Why liquid?
Part of the autism story is the combination of gastrointestinal issues that prevent the proper digestion and absorption of nutrients. I may be wrong about this, but it seems to me that even a chewable vitamin requires enzyme action to break it down to essential nutrients. Some elements of the liquid may as well, but if there is increased permeability of the intestinal lining (“leaky gut”), then the more this stuff is broken down before entering the body, the better.
Anyway, we were already giving him Added Attention, which is also in liquid form and he’s used to the twice-a-day routine. Adding another spoonful of something else shouldn’t trouble him.
We’ll see...
